The College has a mixture of beautiful historic and contemporary buildings, set in stunning gardens. We are located by the University’s Sidgwick site and University Library, and about 10 minutes walk from the historic centre of Cambridge. We have around 400 undergraduates, 300 postgraduate students, and 70 academic staff.

Summary of event

From July 7–9, 2026, the University of Cambridge will host the next edition of the ESFR-SIMPLE Summer School, a unique event for students and young professionals passionate about the future of Sodium-cooled Fast Reactors (SFRs).

This summer school dives into the latest advances in sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR) technology, particularly in the context of many advanced small modular designs hitting the global market in recent years.

The event will see lectures from leading industrial and scientific experts as well as presentations on the key outcomes of the ESFR-SIMPLE project, including small-modular SFR core and systems design, safety analysis, student presentations, and a technical tour. Some of the topics will be as follows:

·       PFBR: India’s journey from conception to criticality

·       Modular SFR core and systems design

·       Modular SFR safety advantages

·       Metallic SFR core design feasibility and advantages

·       R&D Innovative sensors for bubble detection

·       Machine Learning for bubble detection

·       Social studies of small modular SFRs and educational achievements
